Aitiny Nay

Explore Fairuz’s musical legacy through analysis and contemporary choreography inspired by Aitiny Nay.

This workshop is taught in both English and Spanish.

Aitiny Nay is a master class that goes beyond learning choreography. It is an invitation to discover Fairuz, one of the most emblematic voices in Arabic music and a defining artist of Lebanon’s golden era.

While Middle Eastern dance classes often focus on Egyptian music, this workshop explores the rich musical heritage of Lebanon and the lasting influence of an artist whose work has touched audiences and performers around the world—including Shakira, who has interpreted this song in concert.

During the first part of the workshop, we will listen to and analyze different versions of Aitiny Nay, exploring their musical structure, emotional qualities, and distinctive interpretations. This listening journey will help students connect more deeply with the music and understand how its nuances can inspire movement.

We will then bring these discoveries into the body through a contemporary choreographic development. Students will learn how to translate musical details, emotion, and cultural context into expressive movement using a modern version of this beloved song.

In this course, we will explore its history, structure, and musical richness. We will analyze its key elements, identify the nuances that distinguish its different versions, and learn to interpret the shifts in rhythm, mood, and energy throughout the piece.

We will then bring this analysis into the body through a dynamic, modern choreography.

International performing artist, creator and educator with over 30 years of experience in Oriental Dance, musical theatre and artistic direction.

Artistic and Content Director of Orientalisimo Academy, Artistic Director of the Alina Babayan Dance School (Barcelona, 2026), and Artistic Director of Orientalísimo Weekend, International Dance Festival.

He has developed an extensive international career as a performer, choreographer, master teacher and judge at major dance festivals worldwide, working in more than 30 countries across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
